Make Sense of Sustainability

No Antibiotics

What is it?

Antibiotic use in the raising of livestock is a common practice amongst conventional farms. These antibiotics are most commonly administered through feed and water for preventative treatment of illness.

Why it Matters?

Antibiotic resistance occurs when certain bacteria are no longer affected by the antibiotic itself. Thus these bacteria become harder to treat, and in severe cases, become “superbugs” which can negatively impact other organisms. The absence of antibiotic use in our program provides a preventative solution to this problem.

No Growth Promotants or Steroids

What is it?

Growth promotants, referred to as beta agonists and/or HGP’s within our industry, are promotants administered to pigs to generate lean muscle mass by diverting extra energy from feed away from fat cells.

Steroids are synthetic hormones also used to stimulate lean muscle growth.

Why it Matters?

Modifying the natural growth cycle of the animal through these uses can cause physical implications for the pig, whether it be skeletal structure or joint soundness.

There is also concern that residual quantities of these synthetic hormones/promotants can be ingested by humans when consuming pork.

All Vegetarian Diet

What is it?

All vegetarian feed –no mammalian or avian byproducts.

Why it Matters?

Our all vegetarian fed pork has a whiter, firmer fat, translating to more marbling and more flavor.

Global Animal Partnership

What is it?

Global Animal Partnership is a third party, animal welfare labeling program verified by audits conducted on every farm.

Why it Matters?

Everything we do at the farm level augments the pig’s physical and emotional well being. From more space to natural bedding, we mitigate stress and provide you a more wholesome product you can feel good about.
