We’re committed to reducing our impact on the environment throughout our operations, including using environmentally-responsible methods for pork production. Much of our pork comes from local farms, which reduces transport distances and lowers our carbon footprint. Having our own trucking company can also reduce transport by using efficient, direct routing.
We are partnering with Carbon Cycle Energy (C2e) – a leading renewable energy development company – to utilize our company’s wastewater and convert biomethane gas from our pork production into a sustainable energy source, providing energy for local communities. C2e is building the largest utility-scale biogas facility in the US across the street from our fresh harvesting facility. This plant will produce 25,000 Mw hours of energy a year – enough to meet the average annual electricity needs of 10,000 homes.
One of our major farm-family partners, Legacy Farms, is also involved in a swine waste-to-energy project.
